Manufactured in India · New Delhi · Est. 1972

Built from the market.
Proven by the product.

National Cables was founded in 1972 from within the electrical trade — market understanding first, manufacturing capability second. That sequence has guided the business across three generations and five decades.

The Origin

Trading floor to factory floor.

National Cables began in Delhi's electrical trade — sourcing, selling, and handling cable from other manufacturers. Years of watching products fail on site and learning what contractors actually needed formed the basis for a manufacturing operation. In 1972, the business started making its own.

1972
National Cable Industries
Founding Entity · New Delhi
The NC four-circle device mark was registered at founding — not as a branding exercise, but as a manufacturing identifier. A verifiable seal to separate specification-compliant cable from everything else in a market where the word "National" was already used by anyone who wanted it.

In its first three decades, National Cables became the specification for Northern India's most demanding institutional work — railways, landmark hotels, oil & gas, and heavy industry. The NC mark became shorthand for cable that performed as labelled.

Integrity
100% virgin electrolytic copper from primary producers. Scrap is sold off, never reintroduced. ≥101% IACS conductivity on every reel.
Resilience
A cable inside a wall performs for 25 years. Compounding and extrusion decisions are made against that horizon — not the next quarter.
Precision
High-speed extrusion maintains strict concentricity, centering the conductor within the insulation to eliminate thermal weak spots.

Three Generations

Each generation built a different layer.

First Generation
Foundation
1972 – 2003
  • Electrical trade origins in Delhi
  • NC four-circle mark registered
  • Dealer network across North India
  • Railways, hospitality, oil & gas supply
Second Generation
Engineering & Process
Post-2003
  • International high-speed extrusion
  • Lead-free PVC compounding (2003)
  • Systematic drawing and annealing control
  • Process discipline for current production
Third Generation
Expansion & Market Growth
Current
  • Brand and packaging modernisation
  • LSZH and FR-LSH product expansion
  • Dealer network scaling nationally
  • Export market development
Corporate Structure

Brand continuity across evolving structures.

The legal structure has changed five times in five decades. The brand, the NC mark, and the manufacturing standard have not. National Cables now operates under Sunray Industries.

The NC Mark

One mark across cable, packaging, and documentation.

NC Trademark

The NC four-circle device mark identifies National Cables product — applied across cable sheathing, retail packaging, and production records.

Traceability to BIS IS 694:2010 and IS 17048:2018 specifications. Licence CM/L-8800140116, verifiable at bis.gov.in.

Manufacturing

The Claim

Save Life. Save Power.

What the slogan means in practice
Save Life
Fire-retardant insulation as standard
FR, FR-LSH, and LSZH insulation tested for oxygen index and temperature index under IS 694:2010 and IS 17048:2018. In a fire, the cable does not propagate flame. In occupied spaces, minimal toxic smoke.
Save Power
Lower resistance. Less waste.
99.97% virgin copper. ≥101% IACS conductivity. Lower resistance per metre means less voltage drop across the run — less energy wasted as heat over the 25+ year installed life of the cable.
Operational Sustainability

Built into the process, not bolted on.

40%
Solar-powered production
Rooftop solar reduces grid dependency during manufacturing hours.
Lead-free since 2003
Type D HRPVC insulation. RoHS compliant. Standard on all production.
0
Scrap copper reuse
Production scrap is sold, never reintroduced into the conductor line.

Frequently Asked Questions

About National Cables — common questions.

Heritage, certifications, and corporate context for procurement teams and institutional buyers evaluating National Cables as a vendor.

When was National Cables founded, and which company owns the brand today?

National Cables was founded in 1972 in New Delhi by electrical-trade professionals who transitioned from sourcing cable from other manufacturers to manufacturing their own. The brand has operated continuously for over five decades.

National Cables is the flagship brand of Sunray Industries. The legal structure has evolved across five entities over five decades, but the brand identity (NC mark), the manufacturing standard, and the specification integrity have remained unchanged. Headquarters are at K-51, Connaught Circus, New Delhi 110001; manufacturing is at 400, Ecotech-1 Extension, Kasna, Greater Noida.

Which BIS and ISO certifications does National Cables hold?

National Cables holds two active BIS manufacturing licences:

  • CM/L-8800140116 for IS 694:2010 — PVC insulated cables for working voltages up to 1100 V
  • CM/L-8800227819 for IS 17048:2018 — halogen-free flame-retardant cables up to 1100 V

The company also holds ISO 9001:2015 certification (certificate 24DQMN65) for its quality management system. All BIS licences are independently verifiable at bis.gov.in.

Which sectors and clients does National Cables supply?

National Cables supplies infrastructure, metro rail, healthcare, industrial, government, and export markets across India and internationally. Anchor institutional clients include Indian Railways, NTPC, ONGC, BHEL, Larsen & Toubro, Indian Oil Corporation, and the Department of Atomic Energy. Hospitality and real estate clients include ITC Maurya, Hotel Imperial, Le Méridien, and DLF.

Cable supply to NPCIL and Department of Atomic Energy is limited to low-voltage wiring per IS 694:2010 and IS 17048:2018 for non-core and administrative buildings — reactor-core and radiation-qualified cables are outside our manufacturing scope.

How does National Cables ensure consistency of specification across decades?

The company has operated without ownership disruption or production interruption since 1972 from the same Delhi and Greater Noida facilities. The founding principle — market understanding first, manufacturing capability second — continues to guide decisions across three generations of leadership.

All cable is manufactured strictly to documented specifications agreed at order stage; the same requirements that earn approval from NPCIL and NTPC apply to every contract regardless of order size. Test certificates, BIS licence references, and manufacturing process documentation are issued for institutional and export orders. The same specification integrity that earned the client list in the 1980s and 1990s remains the standard today.
