Industrial Control Cable (Grey Sheath / Numbered Cores)
Engineered for high-density industrial logic and PLC harnessing, these control cables feature a Grey ST3 outer sheath and numbered black cores with high-resolution inkjet sequential marking for error-free termination. Type D (85°C HR) insulation supports demanding panel temperatures; 500m–1000m wooden drums suit OEM automated machine harnessing lines.
Core configuration, ampacity & de-rating — IS 694:2010
Control cables are specified in the 0.5–2.5mm² control-duty range. Per-core current ratings are at 30°C ambient for thermal reference — each circuit is normally fused or MCB-protected well below these limits. For 85°C HR-PVC (Type D), apply the ambient de-rating factors after the ampacity table.

Fully vertically integrated manufacturing.
Industrial control cable combines Class 5 conductors, Type D heat-resistant core insulation with printed numbering, and a grey ST3 outer sheath — engineered for signal integrity and reliable identification in crowded PLC and DCS marshalling.
Why control cable is the correct specification for command and signal circuits.
Control cables are specified for their electrical isolation, mechanical robustness, and unambiguous core identification — not continuous current capacity.
Where this cable is specified.
Control cables are specified for all command, signal, and instrumentation circuits in industrial facilities — wherever a circuit carries a 4–20mA signal, a digital I/O, or a low-voltage control command rather than a power load.
Standards this product is manufactured to.
National Cables industrial control cable is manufactured to IS 694:2010 with grey ST3 sheathing, numbered black cores, and Type D (85°C) insulation within our BIS licence scope. Full documentation available for institutional procurement, government tenders, and export requirements.
Industrial control cable — technical questions answered.
Common questions from panel builders, DCS/PLC system integrators, EPC procurement teams, and industrial automation specifiers selecting multicore control cable for industrial installations.
What is the voltage rating for industrial control cable?
National Cables' industrial control cable to IS 694:2010 is rated up to and including 1100V AC. The cable is factory-tested at 3kV for 5 minutes per IS 694 requirements.
This voltage classification is more conservative than typical European 300/500V control cables (YY / IEC 60227-7), providing significant headroom for mixed power and signal circuits in industrial panels.
For specific voltage class confirmation for export projects, refer to the designation printed on the sheath or request the product datasheet.
Does the cable have numbered cores for termination?
Yes. Our multicore industrial control cable uses numbered core identification, with white printing on black PVC insulated cores for easy sequential termination. Cables with three or more cores include a green/yellow protective earth conductor in the outer layer.
This numbering system simplifies panel wiring and reduces termination errors in high-density control installations. Specific core identification schemes can be confirmed from the product datasheet for your ordered core count (2 to 24 cores stock, up to 61 cores made-to-order).
Do you offer an LSZH version for high-density control racks?
Yes. For high-density control racks, server rooms, or enclosed environments where halogen-free performance is specified, we manufacture HFFR/LSZH multicore control cable to IS 17048:2018 under BIS licence CM/L-8800227819.
These cables use halogen-free polyolefin insulation with HCl emission below 0.5%, suitable for data centres, metro control rooms, and public infrastructure where corrosive fire by-products must be avoided.
Contact our technical team for stock availability and made-to-order lead times for specific core counts.
Can this cable be used on drag chains or energy chains?
No. Standard industrial control cable to IS 694:2010 is designed for fixed installation or occasional flexing, not continuous repeated flexing.
Drag-chain and energy-chain applications require cables specifically designed for dynamic movement, typically using Class 6 conductors and specialised sheath compounds engineered for repeated flex cycles. Using a fixed-installation cable in drag-chain service will cause premature conductor fatigue and sheath failure.
For drag-chain requirements, specify a purpose-designed high-flex cable.
Request institutional pricing and technical documentation.
Our engineering team responds within 24 hours with accurate bulk pricing, complete compliance documentation, and specifications. BOQ uploads accepted.
Supplying to an international project?
This cable is manufactured to IS 694:2010 on a BIS-certified production line. The same facility produces cable conforming to equivalent international control and power cable standards — if your project specifies YY / VDE 0250 or NYY / IEC 60502-1, we can supply from the same certified manufacturing facility.
